'The Woman in Black'

This mood board shows inspiration for another shoot called 'The woman in black', the idea is to use the buildings of churches or crematoriums as the background. The idea came to me when I was doing research on the little black dress, from this I had the idea to do a photo shoot surrounding the black dress, I thought this would look great as a fashion shoot in my magazine as its a black and white publication. So, the idea is to style a variety of black dresses against these buildings and have captions to go with each look.

Nymph Beauty Inspiration

The make-up style for this shoot is natural skin and lips to represent the natural well-being of the myth mythology of nymphs, but then adding false eye lashes and eye make-up to contradict this. The hair style is to look natural and beautiful, maybe in a fish tale plait or simply wavy/curly hair. Hair accessories such as flowers and lace face masks will be part of the look as well. Its all about the eyes.

'Modern Nymph'

Bernadette Newberry, Cincinnati & Drayton Fashion Photographer

A nymph in Greek mythology is a minor female nature deity typically associated with a particular location or landform. Nymph's are usually depicted as beautiful, young nubile maidens who love to dance and sing. Generally regarded as divine spirits who animate nature.

This idea to represent the 'modern nymph' came to me when location hunting for my next photo shoot when I came across a beautiful old cemetery. The idea of representing and depicting a 'modern' version of a nymph. Styling the model in beautiful garments with a hint of darkness in order to have opposing recreations of the meaning that the mythology nymphs represent. Maybe an eye mask to oppose this gracious feeling and give multiple emotions to what the image is saying, to get the viewer thinking about what's happening in the image. I will experiment with the idea for my next photo shoot.

Javier Galue

'VEGETARIAN LADY'

Editorial featuring model Natalia Gaplouska

Javier Galue is a top fashion photographer from Madrid, Spain. Galue's editorials are beautiful, I especially love this editorial story of a vegetarian lady. The composition of glamour vs old with the location almost resembles that of a servants quarters, its fairy tale like. The pop of colour with the vegetables brings a glimpse of hope in an otherwise dreary setting. All of that combined makes for a stunning editorial that I very much admire.

Style Inspiration

Futuristic vs anti-futuristic is the style for the next photo shoot, the movement thats dominating fashion at the moment as seen by Burberry in their A/W 14/15 collection. The idea of combining both futuristic and anti-futuristic in one shoot backing up my overall concept of opposition and texture contrast. Futuristic is all about rubbers and neoprene, whilst anti-futuristic returns to handcrafting and natural fibres like lace with a bit of boho style in the mix.

Lighting Mood Board

Shadows and creating depth is the lighting style for the shoot.

Texture Mood Board

Contrasting textures and fabrics will be a strong element within photo shoot. A lot of sheer fabrics, pleats and lace, detail being placed over the body.

Rogan Brown

Rogan Brown's work is an exploration and re-presentation of natural organic forms both mineral and vegetal creating vastly intricate paper models. Rogan looks for patterns and repeated motifs that run through natural phenomena at different scales, from the microscopic to the macroscopic.

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of a man of imagination, nature is imagination itself". - William Blake

Anne Sofia Madsen

Anne Sofia Madsen's vision: A wish to show the well-known through the un-known and to use traditional handcraft methods and couture techniques within ready-to-wear. Anne experiments with materials such as leather applied to a fine mesh base, built-up collars with unconventional patterns, and hand-drawn illustrations printed digitally on silk or wool fabrics.

The consistent play with contrast and materials creates a look of mixed toughness and fragility.

Anne's work consists of using only black and white within her collections, the use of texture amongst her designs is beautiful and gives full impact of contrast. After coming across Anne's work it has given me an idea to create texture and contrast amongst garments used within my photo shoot of placing garments on the body, this will allow another element of contrast and opposition to be captured within my images.

Monochrome Mood Board

Monochrome, the style for the next shoot.
A studio shoot using white and black back drops will really bring out the boldness of blacks and whites, a strong contradiction between the light and dark.

Placing Garments

The idea of using garments as objects that are placed over the body instead of being worn, the idea of being separate from the body, the contrasting element of clothes not being worn but laid over the body.

These images below demonstrate the ideas I have of placing garments, the concept behind these shots is focused on the home. This shoot is called 'Farinelli' a story about love, obsession, and an angelic voice, 1705-2013 is represented within these images from CR Fashion Book.

Mood Board

This mood board demonstrates a style that the shoot could follow, very minimalistic styling is required in order to not take away the importance of the accessories. Black and white clothing will be the dominate colours to really get that bold black and white contrast you get when shooting in the studio. Simplistic garments such as a coat, hot pants and bralettes will be used to give a seductive feel to the images . The seductive feel of the imagery will give viewers a bit of a story, the idea to use both a woman and a man for this shoot is a strong possibility to represent the feeling of separation and togetherness on a number of levels.

Concept Mood Board

This mood board shows a concept idea behind the next photo shoot, the idea of separation and togetherness using accessories and the body. The idea of the photographs being taken so they cut off the body in order to separate or isolate a certain part. The body acts as a platform with the accessories being at the forefront of the images, positioning the accessories so they are together with the body and also apart. Where they are not connected to the body or they are separated from the rightful place on the body in order to give a sense of separation.

Beth Buxton Stylist

Beth Buxton is a London based stylist currently editor of Ligature magazine, Buxton also consults on ad campaigns for fashion labels. I have picked out a few pieces of her work that inspire me in my own project. The use of black and white is key within my magazine so these shots show lighting effects and how well black and white styling/garments emphasises the positive and negative space.

London Fog

The Coat Company Fall/Winter 2009 Ad Campaign featuring Gisele Bundchen. Photographer Nino Munoz. The minimal styling of this campaign is very much the style I am going for within my next photo shoot; minimal, simplistic and seductive.

Daniel Kennedy

Daniel Kennedy is a London based celebrity and fashion photographer, Kennedy works on shoots for advertising clients, magazines and Celebrities. Below is a selection of his work that has inspired me for my next photo shoot, separation & togetherness, the idea of representing these opposing words by using the body as a platform with the use of accessories. These images give me ideas for camera shots, the separation of the body, not showing the whole figure and focusing on the placement of accessories.
